This week, our spotlight is on the Cathedral's chapter of LI-CAN, Long Island Congregations Association and Neighborhoods, a diverse, non-partisan citizens’ organization rooted in dues-paying religious congregations and other institutions in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Founded in 1996 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, LI-CAN works to strengthen communities on Long Island by teaching and practicing the fundamentals of democracy.
Our group's primary focus has been on working with LI-CAN's opioid action team. Their two-fold mission is 1) to learn how congregations can provide practical help to people dealing with opioid-related challenges, and do so without stigma or judgment; and 2) to use our power to create changes necessary to reduce the number of overdose deaths in our communities.
If you are interested in joining in LI-CAN's efforts, sign up this week at the Welcome Table or join the LI-CAN group on Realm.
