I’ve been blessed to have alway called the Cathedral my church: I was baptized, attended Sunday school, confirmed and married here. The youngest of 5, as we grew our “stay at home mom” became a “church lady,” devoting her time to the Cathedral - Service League, Cathedral Women, Nearly New Shop, the Memorial Day Fair, and more. I followed her example; in Girls’ Choir, Junior Altar Guild, and a Youth Group missionary trip to Haiti, unaware this was stewardship.
After college, a full-time working mom, I was lucky to attend church on high holy days. As my children grew, I attended church regularly. I volunteered at the Memorial Day Fair and building the palm screen. Faces seen in church for years became good friends. Serving together was fulfilling and great fun. I began to pledge yearly, and became involved with various ministries. Many will recognize me as an usher, which I love. Am I now a “church lady”?
Being a steward financially and by volunteering is my way to giving back to God for the many blessings I have received as a lifelong member of this beautiful parish. Perhaps now it’s your time to pledge, volunteer or take part in a ministry? I welcome you to join me and the other stewards of the Cathedral when we build the next palm screen or hold the Memorial Day Fair. I really think you will love it too!
