Dean's Forum: Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Discipleship Comes of Age

The Lutheran pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer is perhaps best known for his role in the anti-Nazi resistance and his subsequent martyrdom. But since his death in 1945, shortly before the end of the war, he has been claimed by religious movements--left, right, and center--that are deeply opposed to each other.

This course will seek to disentangle Bonhoeffer's thought from one-sided interpretations through a close reading of two of his most important texts: The Cost of Discipleship and Letters and Papers from Prison.

Taught by Laura Nelson, Ph.D., parishioner at the Cathedral of the Incarnation.
