A note from the Dean regarding Communion in Both Kinds

The Bishop of Long Island has approved the return of the chalice for all communicants as the Diocese continues to adjust pandemic protocols. The chalice will be available beginning the Second Sunday of Easter at the Cathedral. All communicants will again be welcome to receive the host (consecrated bread) in your hands and drink directly from the cup (consecrated wine). The practice of intinction (dipping the host in the cup) has been discontinued in the Diocese. Please know that if you are not comfortable drinking from the common cup at this time, it is certainly not required. You are welcome to keep the practice of “bread only” for as long as that is your preference. If you have any questions about the reception of communion, please speak with any member of the cathedral clergy.
