Two graduating seniors from the Cathedral Choir received top honors at the final Evensong of the season on Sunday, June 11. Selina Barnes and Garrett Treanor were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Cathedral Choir Development Fund for their exemplary musicianship and commitment to the Cathedral Choir. Selina and Garrett were soloists in a major choral piece done at the Evensong, the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis in G by Charles Stanford.
Selina will attend Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT, majoring in music theatre, and Garrett will attend the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, IN, majoring in Audio Engineering. Between them, they had 17 years of combined service to the cathedral choir, managing the busy cathedral choir schedule with their equally busy high school music schedule.
Named in honor of a past Organist/Choirmaster at the cathedral, the Robert Ludwig Award is given to one or two graduating seniors who have excelled in all aspects of choral music and have been solid participants in the choir program.
