Arriving at the end of 2019, the 5-stop continuo organ by the preeminent firm of Taylor & Boody is the latest addition to our musical resources. A continuo organ is a small one-manual pipe organ built to be movable. Common in both sacred and secular music between the 10th and 18th centuries – both as a chamber organ and for use in ensemble works – this instrument considerably expands our ability to perform choral works of earlier eras in an authentic way. The organ will be featured in a program of Renaissance and Baroque music for organ and choir, with staff singers of the Cathedral Choir and organists Larry Tremsky and Colin MacKnight.
