He put before them another parable: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.'

Matthew 13:31-32

Stewardship at the Cathedral

Stewardship is our intentional response to God for all that we are, and all that we have been freely given. Baptism calls us to share our gifts with the cathedral community and God’s wider world. As Christian stewards, we respond with gratitude and generosity to all that has been given to us through God’s grace.

These gifts take many forms - not only financial support for the Cathedral's ongoing ministries, but also the time, effort, prayer, and presence you bring in support of this community.

Ways to Support the Cathedral

One-Time Donation

A one-time gift, of any size, directly supports the ongoing life and mission of the Cathedral — from worship and music to outreach and building preservation. Whether given in celebration, in memory, or simply out of gratitude, every gift helps sustain this sacred space for generations to come.

Gifts of the Altar

Sunday by Sunday, these gifts — fresh flowers, candles, and the bread and wine of the Eucharist — adorn our worship and can be given in celebration or in loving memory of someone dear. A simple and meaningful way to mark a birthday, anniversary, or remembrance, these offerings become part of the beauty of the liturgy each week they are given.

Sanctuary Candles — one seven-day sanctuary candle and listing in the Cathedral bulletins on Sunday.
The sanctuary candle burns for seven days above the tabernacle, signifying Christ's abiding presence in the Blessed Sacrament. Offer a candle in memory of a loved one or in thanksgiving for a blessing.

Mass Intentions — one Sunday and listing on the Cathedral prayer intention page for the week, mention in the Sunday prayer intentions, and listing in the Sunday bulletins.
Honor a loved one on or near the anniversary of their death. The intention is offered in the Prayers of the People at Sunday Masses and listed in the bulletin.

Altar Flowers — one Sunday and listing in the Cathedral bulletins on Sunday.
We place flowers near the Altar as a visible expression of prayer and remembrance. The memorial offered is listed in the bulletin. (Note: Altar flowers are not used during Lent.)

Bread & Wine — one month and listing in the Cathedral bulletins on Sunday.
Offering bread and wine for Holy Communion is an act of devotion in memory of a loved one or in thanksgiving. This gift becomes part of the sacred offering at the altar. The memorial is listed in the bulletin for the entire month.

To make your gift to the Altar, please contact Mr. Gerry Potter, Assistant Treasurer, at pledge@incarnationgc.org.

Become a Steward of the Cathedral — a Pledging Member of the Congregation

Becoming a pledging member is a commitment to the Cathedral's future and a tangible expression of faith in action. Annual pledges provide the steady, predictable support that allows us to plan our ministries, maintain our historic building, and continue our worship and outreach throughout the year. For questions about becoming a Steward, please contact Mr. Gerry Potter, Assistant Treasurer, at pledge@incarnationgc.org.

Music in the Cathedral

From choral evensong to concerts that fill the nave with sound, music is at the heart of worship and community life at the Cathedral. By joining the Encore Circle, you help sustain this vibrant program - ensuring that Music in the Cathedral continues to inspire, welcome, and bring people together for years to come. Contact Canon Martin Green, Director of Music, at mgreen@incarnationgc.org for more opportunities to support Music in the Cathedral.

Memorial Gifts

Memorial gifts offer a meaningful way to honor the life and legacy of a loved one, or your own ministry at the Cathedral, while leaving a lasting mark on the Cathedral's ministry. These gifts — whether designated toward vestments, liturgical appointments, or other areas of Cathedral life — become a living tribute woven into worship for years to come. For questions about Memorial Gifts, please contact Mr. Kyle Sabo, Dean's Verger, at ksabo@incarnationgc.org.

Legacy Giving

A planned or deferred gift - through a bequest in your will, a beneficiary designation, or another form of estate planning - allows you to leave a lasting legacy of faith at the Cathedral for generations to come. These gifts, often the most impactful and meaningful a person can make, ensure that the ministries, music, and mission you cherish continue to flourish long into the future.

For any questions about giving, please contact Mr. Gerry Potter, Assistant Treasurer, at pledge@incarnationgc.org.

FAQs

HOW CAN I SEE HOW MUCH I HAVE CONTRIBUTED THIS YEAR?

  • With our new online giving system, you can check your giving at any time, download a tax form, and change your bank information. If you are having trouble logging into Realm, contact the cathedral office.

HOW DO I DECIDE HOW MUCH TO PLEDGE?

  • The annual budget for the Cathedral of the Incarnation is just over 1.4 million dollars. The most important source of income is parishioner giving, as investments and diocesan support are limited. Programmatic growth and community outreach are in the hands of our stewards. Your financial commitment allows the leadership to plan and budget effectively, and to manage with confidence that needs will be met. As you prayerfully discern your commitment, please bear in mind that the average annual pledge in The Episcopal Church is $2,800. The cathedral currently has 136 steward households. In 2021 we must raise $300,000 in support for our mission. Will you become a Steward of the Cathedral and help God’s garden grow?

WHY SHOULD I BECOME A STEWARD INSTEAD OF JUST LEAVING MONEY IN THE COLLECTION PLATE?

  • As Christians, we commit our support to cathedral ministries for the coming year. Our financial commitments sustain the cathedral’s mission and help our leaders expand the positive impact of our worship, programs and initiatives.
