A feria is a weekday with no special feast or saint assigned, when the Mass follows the prayers and readings of the current liturgical season.

A Festival of Lessons and Carols for Christmas

Sunday, December 14, 4pm

The full Cathedral Choirs will perform favorite and familiar carols in addition to some lesser-known works from around the world.

Lessons & Carols is modeled on the service as developed at King’s College, Cambridge, UK. It traditionally begins with the carol Once in Royal David’s City sung by a solo boy or girl chorister, then joined by all. Lessons & Carols was first done in the cathedral in 1953, making this the 71st anniversary.

The Cathedral Choristers, will feature prominently at Lessons & Carols. The choristers, at their strongest in many years, will join with the adult singers in a wide variety of works. The choristers also join in singing all the descants (the high voice above a tune) and most of the other carol settings.

Blue Christmas Mass for Grief Support

Sunday, December 21 at 4pm

This healing service offers solace for those who are facing life after a loss. The Blue Christmas service allows a space to feel grief during a time when many people feel joy. All are welcome to attend.

Meditation and Contemplative Prayer

Mondays 6:30 - 7:30 PM

Each week, we practice making conscious contact with God by showing up as we are, gathering all of our fears, anxieties, and life circumstances that need special care, and simply bringing them to God. Our time together includes a guided meditation based on an ancient monastic prayer practice, time for intercession, silence, and beautiful ancient chants.

These relaxed, 90-minute conversations are open to all and will explore the questions of theology, Christian spirituality, and life in community that matter most today.

Discover how theology lives not only in books but also in our shared stories and daily life. This opening conversation will be held at See House, the historic former residence of the bishops of Long Island, now home to cathedral and diocesan offices.

Christmas Pageant Rehearsals & Sign-Up

Rehearsals for this year’s 4:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Pageant continue on Sundays in December, 10:15 - 11am, during Fellowship in Faith.

During Advent, children who are not rehearsing for the Christmas Eve Pageant are invited to create their own Christmas icons! Inspired by the colorful work of Ukrainian artist Nastja Paruta-Dashko, whose icons of Jesus with children were recently brought to the Cathedral by Director of Music Larry Tremsky, we’ll explore a different part of the Nativity story each week as we create our own works of sacred art.

Basic Christian Formation Program

Beginning Sunday, January 11 at 10:15am in the Mercer School

The Basic Christian Formation course begins Sunday January 11, 10:15 am at the Mercer School -- a multi-week course to engage questions of faith from a Christian perspective in the Anglican tradition. It serves both as preparation for adult confirmation, reception or baptism, or as a refresher for those who want to renew their faith. Register on Realm here.

Adopt-A-Family

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. - Galatians 6:10

Each year, the cathedral community turns its attention to the Nativity of our Lord. We prepare the way during Advent and, amidst the hustle of shopping, cleaning, and cooking, we join our neighbors - our family of believers - in quiet prayer and contemplation as the days grow shorter and the clear nights turn cooler still.

As we look to the close of the church year and prepare for the beginning of a new one, it's once again time for Adopt-A-Family.

The Adopt-A-Family program is an annual effort of the Cathedral congregation and so many of our sister Episcopal churches around the diocese to provide gifts and necessities to needy families. Your generosity will bring joy to the our very own Cathedral Neighbors Being Neighbors ministry.

If you wish to participate, you may sign up at this link. All gifts must be received by the Cathedral no later than December 16. No late drop-offs can be accepted.

Soup Donations needed!

Neighbors being Neighbors

We are in need of donations of canned Progresso Chicken Noodle for our Neighbors being Neighbors ministry. Now that winter has begun, we will be serving the soup twice per week with our sandwiches. Please bring donations to church, or drop at the Cathedral office in See House during the week.

A prayer for the Bishop Search

Almighty God, giver of every good gift and source of all wisdom and understanding, look graciously on your church and so guide the minds and hearts of those who will choose our next bishop. We pray that you will grant wisdom and discernment to those who offer themselves as candidates. Give them a spirit of revelation and knowledge of your will, so that they may care for all your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

On Sunday, December 14, the masses are in memory of James Albertelli from Anthony and Alison Parks. "It is holy and wholesome to remember those who have died," for they are at rest in the arms of God.

For all who have died, in the communion of your Church, and those whose faith is known to you alone, that, with all the saints, they may have rest in that place where there is no pain or grief, but life eternal, we pray to you, O Lord. Lord, have mercy.
