Welcome to the Cathedral of the Incarnation

Provost Theodore BeanThank you for visiting the Cathedral’s website and welcome!

This is an exciting time in the history of the Cathedral of the Incarnation. Extensive repairs are near completion on the historic 208 foot church spire with rededication anticipated for the Fall of 2008. During the summer months, the unattractive scaffolding which has shielded the spire for several years will disappear to the delight of our congregation, the clergy and people of the Diocese, and the residents of Garden City. We will celebrate the successful completion of the first phase of a multi-faceted renovation of the physical fabric of our magnificent Cathedral where Jesus Christ has been worshipped for over 130 years.

This Cathedral is not merely a place of history, but a home for a vibrant, worshipping congregation with exciting programs and varied ministries. Please explore this website to learn about Christian Formation and our Choral Music programs among many other opportunities for service. Several photo albums will give you the “human face” of cathedral life, ever-changing, and always in some form of transformation. I find it especially delightful to see the faces of children and teenagers who are integral to our intergenerational ministries and programs. If you check us out, you will discover, quickly, I hope, that we are not a museum, although we value the history of our Diocese and its Bishops, but both a worshipping community, and, increasingly, a center for Diocesan work and worship. Our goal is to be at the heart of the Diocese – and not just geographically but as integral to the common life of the Diocese of Long Island.

Do come and worship with us! We have exciting Christian Education opportunities for every age, an exceptional Choral Music program, and long-established ministries the hospitalized and homebound. Each of our Sunday worship services is different in style and meets the needs of a specific group. Recent publications – The Messenger newsletter and sermons (found in “Worship”) – can be readily accessed.

My staff and colleagues and the members of our congregation look forward to greeting you in the Name of the Risen Christ.

The Venerable Theodore W. Bean, Jr.
Provost
