The second part of The Journey to Adulthood program is called J2A.  For those teens in 10-11th grade, who are preparing to receive the sacrament of Confirmation, a retreat to Little Portion Friary is held.   On January 8-10, 2010, six youth and three adult mentors (Fr. Joseph Pae, Kristin Ochtera and Deacon Connie Lorenz) went to the friary.

During their stay, they were able to help the Brothers with work projects which included shoveling snow, cleaning the bakery, and re-stocking the candle room.

The movie, I Am Legend, helped to raise the question of how our lives might be used by God to serve others and to examine how our actions may have ripple effects and who we might affect.

I Am Legend is an important film for Christians to see and discuss because it tells a story that helps us to examine our understanding of destiny and how our actions and passion can have a ripple effect much greater than the moment of the specific action itself. The film illustrates a man’s passion to carry on, even in the midst of great adversity and through the loss of his family, life as it was, and his faith in God’s sovereignty.

The group prayed together, ate together and played together.  There was a visit to the beach, time to play cards and time to just enjoy each other’s company.  Brother Dustan and Brother Max spent time with the group answering some “Stump the Brother” questions.

This group of six: William Cavanaugh, Nicolette Cavallo, Sarah Hughes, Kasey Ng, Lucy Petropoulos and Brittany Riedell will be Confirmed at the Easter Vigil, April 3, 2010.
