During the week August 11-15, 2008, the Cathedral held a Vacation Bible School for children ages 4-9. This year’s theme for the Cathedral’s VBS 2008 was “Jesus Is Having A Party And We Are All Invited,” from Living the Good News curriculum. And indeed a party was had by all!
Through the telling of Bible stories by the Angel Story Teller (a.k.a. Jane Tamke), stories such as The Creation Story, Zacchaeus, The Good Samaritan, Healing the Paralytic, and The Great Feast, demonstrated aspects of Jesus’ character and ministry. Each story also embodied some quality Jesus wants us to show in our lives. Twenty children ages 4-9 learned of God’s great love, and acceptance of each of them. Each day an arts/crafts project was done to reinforce the lesson for the day.
The children began their day in the Cathedral itself for a “show and tell” session led by Fr. Joseph Pae. Youth Helpers Josh Littlefield, Julie and Jenny Itty, Nicole Ostuni and Ian Scott lead the games and fun activities on the beautiful grounds of the Cathedral for the children, which included relay races, water balloon toss, bubble making, and of course the ever popular “duck, duck, goose” game. Each day ended with snack time in the “Veggie Room” where the children were able to watch a portion from the classic DVD entitled, Veggie Tales...A Lesson in Helping Others, presented by Big Idea.
On the last day, during the “The Great Feast” closing pizza party given for the children and their parents, Deacon Connie Lorenz extended her sincerest appreciation to all who helped and supported her including her administrative staff Suzie Ryan, Peppy Newsome, Cheryl Clark, and Thea Welch.
